Andrew M. Glatt

Andy Glatt is a native of southern California. Andy’s practice focuses on real estate, business transactional and planning matters, with a subspecialty in taxation. Andy has been certified by the California State Bar as a Certified Specialist in Taxation Law for over 20 years, and he is a California Certified Public Accountant (on “inactive status”). Recent transactions include (i) the purchase and sale of several residential and commercial real estate properties (most recently, a 120+ unit multifamily residential property with a purchase price of approximately $20M, which involved an assumption of existing Fannie Mae financing, a 1031 exchange involving the sale of a 276-unit apartment complex for approximately $44M and the acquisition of a 383-unit apartment complex for approximately $65M); (ii) a “reverse 1031 exchange” with very tight timing issues involving commercial/industrial real estate; (iii) the purchase, sale and restructurings of several entities involved in the real estate development business (transaction values between $5 million and $50 million); (iv) two sales of privately held companies to European based purchasers, one of which structured as a triangular merger for tax purposes; and (v) the sale of a substantial equity interest in a San Diego-based manufacturer and wholesaler of sports-related products with a company valuation in the $50M range, with a substantial amount of the proceeds being used to partially redeem interests held by founding owners of the company.

Andy has been a member of the State Bar of California since 1985, and is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association. Before merging firms with the Judkins firm in 2003, he was a partner in a national law firm and, prior to that, a partner at Rudick, Platt, Glatt & Getz APC. Andy received his law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from California State University at Long Beach.

Michael E. Hulme, Of Counsel

Michael Hulme is a native of southern California. Mike’s practice focuses on business, corporate and real estate transactions and related advice and planning. Mike has extensive experience in acquisitions and sales of real estate, and in acquisitions, sales and mergers of businesses. Prior to joining our firm, Mike served as General Counsel of Culligan International Company and Associate GC of its parent, U.S. Filter. While at Culligan and U.S. Filter, Mike handled numerous acquisitions and divestitures, including the sale of Culligan and several of its major subsidiaries. Mike was Vice President and Corporate Counsel for Forte Hotels, Inc., where he represented Forte in numerous real property hospitality franchises, acquisitions, sales and development transactions, and provided advice regarding hospitality and general business matters. Mike has been a member of the State Bar of California since 1986, and is also a member of the San Diego County Bar Association. He received his law degree from the University of Southern California School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California at Davis.

Clive M. Essakow

Clive Essakow came to San Diego from Johannesburg, South Africa. His practice focuses on estate planning, trust and probate administration, business and corporate transactions, and employment law. Clive has been a member of the State Bar of California since 1996 and is also a member of the San Diego County Bar Association. He was admitted to practice as an attorney in South Africa in 1983 (currently on “inactive” status). Clive received a mediator credential from the National Conflict Resolution Center in 1996. Prior to joining Judkins Glatt LLP, Clive was the General Counsel for Glass South Africa (Pty) Ltd., an international glass manufacturing and distribution corporation, for approximately ten years, and thereafter practiced with a national law firm and the firm of Rudick, Platt, Glatt & Getz APC. Clive received his law degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1978. He currently serves on the advisory board of directors of the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

Susan E. Bonanno

Susan E. Bonanno came to San Diego from Hamptonville, North Carolina. Her practice focuses on real estate and business transactions. Susan has extensive experience in acquisitions, dispositions, financing, development and leasing of real estate, including preparation of CC&Rs, REAs and similar project documents for retail and commercial developments. Her recent transactions include the acquisition, disposition and financing of over $40 million of distressed real estate assets, financing of a $35 million construction loan for a large multi-family project, and the preparation of CC&Rs for a 12-acre family entertainment water park resort hotel and conference center in Southern California. Susan has been a member of the State Bar of California since 1994, and is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association. Susan received her law degree from California Western School of Law in 1993, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1990.

Evan S. Ravich

Evan S. Ravich has extensive experience in the acquisition, leasing, sale, exchange, financing and refinancing of commercial and multi-family property, as well as vacant land, in California and Arizona. His practice also includes the formation, structure and sale of corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, joint ventures and tenancies-in-common. Transactions handled by Evan include the acquisition, by a single client, of nine apartment complexes in Arizona (totaling approximately 2800 units) and the refinancing of loans secured by apartment complexes in California and Arizona. Evan is currently working on the refinancing of two multi-family properties in California in the aggregate $150M range. Before joining the firm in 2011, Evan was Of Counsel for 17 years to a mid-sized San Diego business and real estate law firm. Evan has been a member of the California State Bar since 1981, and is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association. Evan received his LL.M in Taxation from New York University Law School in 1982, his law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1981, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1975.

David H. Getz

David H. Getz is a native southern California. He focuses primarily on resolving disputes involving real estate issues and other business matters. Dave’s background and experience in handling litigation matters makes him a valuable resource for our real estate and business clients. In addition to directly handling matters such as commercial evictions and mediations, Dave provides needed insight in evaluating potential claims, and oversees outside litigation counsel in larger insurance, business and real estate litigation matters, taking the lead in managing risk and negotiating settlements of disputes. In addition, Dave handles trademark filings and strategy for a wide variety of businesses including national restaurant chains. Dave has been a member of the State Bar of California since 1986, and is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association. Before merging with the Judkins firm in 2003, Dave was a partner in a national law firm and, prior to that, a partner at Rudick, Platt, Glatt & Getz APC. Dave received his law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1986 and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with honors from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1982.
